Object: Typescript on cellulose paper with manuscript signature
Condition:
- sharp folding creases whereby the upper right crease is torn
- minor surface dirt
- Slight acidification and discolouring
- grease stain towards the lower left
- minor iron stains
Object is too fragile to handle it unsupported. To make it fit for handling and preserve it for the future conservation is required.
Conservation
- Dryclean with latex cleaning powder
- Grease stain reduction with hexane
- Wash by immersion in a water bath, deacidify with calcium bicarbonate
- Tear repair and crease reinforcement and support backing with Kozo tissue paper and wheat starch paste
- Flatten and leave to dry between wool felts
- Store in protective Mylar enclosure
